Five in hospital after road crashes

A teenager was in the intensive care unit last night the victim of one of four crashes that put five people in hospital over the holiday weekend.

The 17-year-old, from Southampton, was seriously injured when his auxiliary cycle came into collision with a car around 9.55 p.m on Sunday.

According to Police, the vehicles were travelling east on Middle Road, with the car in front of the cycle, when they collided as the car attempted to turn into Lindo's Family Foods.

The teenager suffered a serious injury, the nature of which was not specified by the Police. He was listed as being in a "fair" condition in the intensive care unit yesterday.

The car driver, a 40-year-old man from Sandys, was not injured.

Just 25 minutes before, Police had been called to another serious collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire.

Two motorcycles were travelling in opposite directions when they collided near Loyal Hill Pass.

The rider of the eastbound motorcycle, a 27-year-old woman from Smith's parish, suffered a serious head injury as well as other injuries. She was said to be in a stable condition on a general ward in hospital last night.

The rider of the westbound motorcycle, a 37-year-old man from Devonshire, sustained facial injuries and abrasions to his arms and hands. He'd been discharged by last night.

Around 11 a.m. on Saturday, a car, van and truck collided near the Bermuda Aquarium and Zoo on North Shore Road in Smith's. According to Police, all three vehicles were travelling east when the truck came to a stop.

The van stopped behind it, but the car was unable to stop in time causing all three vehicles to collide.

The truck driver, a 38-year-old man from Pembroke, was not hurt.

The driver of the van, a 70-year-old man, and his passenger, a 62-year-old woman, both from St. George's, both suffered chest pain and leg injuries.

They were taken to hospital, where the woman was listed as being in a "satisfactory" condition yesterday. The man had been released.

At 12.40 a.m on Saturday, a man travelling west in a car on Middle Road in Southampton lost control of the vehicle, and it ended up over an embankment near the junction with Church Road.

The driver, a 34 year old man from Sandys, was not hurt, but the vehicle was extensively damaged.
