Lightbourne urges players to build on the 'feel-good' factor
Kyle Lightbourne has called for Hogges to build on the "feel-good factor" generated from their encouraging start to the season when they tackle Richmond Kickers at the National Sports Centre (NSC) tomorrow.
Hogges triumphed in their first home match of the campaign against Harrisburg City Islanders last week and Lightbourne believes his players can feed off the positive energy flowing through their growing fanbase.
"I've definitely felt a feel-good factor in the camp this week in training," said Lightbourne.
"All the supporters I've spoken to on the street seem to be very positive after our win against Harrisburg and it's important we build on that."
Hogges have slight concerns over the fitness of strikers Domico Coddington and Antwan Russell who are both nursing injuries, while defenders Omar Shakir and Tokia Russell are also recovering from knocks.
But Lightbourne is hopeful the influential quartet will be passed fit for tomorrow's match and revealed that Michael Parsons and ex-Trinidad international Marlon Rojas could be available for action.
"Domico hasn't trained this week after picking up a slight knock against Harrisburg and Antwan, Tokia and Omar have slight injuries, but we hope they will be okay," Lightbourne said.
"Michael Parsons signed for us again earlier this week and we're hoping to get confirmation of Marlon's (Rojas) signature from the USL any day now. It's important we have competition for places and Raymond Beach should be joining us next week and has started training with us."
Hogges' wily coach played down Kickers' claims that they are travelling to Bermuda with a depleted squad and knows painfully well of the threat of tomorrow's opposition.
"They beat us 7-1 at home last season and it was a match to forget for us," he said. "We were level after half an hour and then conceded four goals in five minutes. We know they are a good team and probably capable of playing at a higher level.
"I don't read too much into their coach's comments that they have a weakened team. He could be telling a white lie and we can't let our guard down or we will get punished."
Meanwhile, John Barry Nusum is a doubt for Crystal Palace Baltimore's visit to Real Maryland Monarchs tomorrow.
The former Bermuda Hogges striker pulled his hamstring during USA Eagles' 3-0 defeat at Wilmington Hammerheads last weekend and returns to full training today.
"I'm not sure if I'll be involved on the weekend," Nusum told The Royal Gazette. "I've had a slight hamstring strain and I've been receiving treatment.
"It's frustrating because things had been going well for me and the team had been getting some good results. I'll be training tomorrow so I'll see how it feels."
Nusum has been blighted with injuries in recent months and had only just recovered from a torn thigh muscle which ruled him out of the end of Philadelphia Kixx's indoor season.
Hogges take on Kickers at 7 p.m. at the NSC.
