Regiment comes to the rescue
Fast-acting military medics have been praised for the way they dealt with a young recruit who suddenly took ill during a drill session at the start of the Bermuda Regiment?s Recruit Camp.
The 20-year-old had just begun his training and was taking part in a drill on the car park at Chaplin Bay beneath Warwick Camp when he felt faint.
?He didn?t collapse, but he went to the ground,? said Adjutant Capt. Chris Wheddon. ?There was a medic nearby and he assisted in getting the man to the medical room at the camp.
?The recruit was treated and the medics surmised that he should go to the hospital for a CAT scan.
?That was done and the scan revealed a hereditary condition.?
The recruit was stabilised in hospital before being released and has since also been discharged from The Regiment on medical grounds.
Capt. Wheddon said: ?The medics showed presence of mind in stabilising the recruit and ordering him to hospital so quickly. We are quite lucky to have a number of trained medics, some of whom work at the hospital.?
