Hood dash title dreams of Rangers
what they hope is a Commercial Division Group A championship when they defeated Island Rangers 4-3 in their penultimate league fixture.
Entering with dreams yet alive for an improbable title, Ranger hopes were erased by the `Boys from the Hood' during a pitched battle at Shelly Bay.
Netting for the victors were Mike Haromy, Dave Mason, Tim Perry and Simon Turner.
With the win Hood maintained a one point lead over chasing BAA Wanderers and having relegation threatened Exiles as they lone remaining foe.
Keeping up the pursuit were Wanderers, the defending champions, as they eased past already doomed North Village Rams 3-0 on tallies by Andy Powell, Eric James and Frank Brewster.
Meanwhile, Forties hammered a nail in Spinning Wheel's relegation coffin with a 3-2 triumph on goals from Brian Fubler, Andy Robinson and Paul Hopwood.
Wendell Simons and Des Minors scored for Wheel, who now need a win over Rams combined with a loss by Exiles in order to remain in the group.
Exiles aided their cause in drawing 1-1 against Lobster Pot.
Craig Tyrell put one between the goalkeeper's legs to give Exiles a second half lead, before Kevin Williams slotted home a penalty to level things for Pot, this after an earlier miss from the spot.
In Group B, already confirmed for promotion, Devonshire Colts All-Stars secured the division title for themselves in fine style, mauling neighbours Devonshire Lions 12-1.
League leading scorer Jeff Richardson as usual led the way for All-Stars, banging in five goals, while Roddy Nesbitt, Myron Piper and Larry Benjamin added two each and James Tweed scored once.
However, second placed Fire Service squandered an opportunity to grab the second promotion slot in going down 3-2 to Valley, also chasing that final spot.
Valley showed great fight in coming back from being down 2-0 early in the match.
Albert Thomas scored once, while Kevin Isaac netted twice to key the fight-back.
And with main striker Troy Furbert shut down by tight marking from Ashton Thomas, it left Tracy Bean and Minch Rawlins to supply the goals, which were not enough.
In a mid-table affair St. George's downed Prison Officers 6-2 behind a Cal Raynor hat-trick, two from Eugene Crockwell and one from Delbert Minors. Ed Lightbourne and Dennis Brown scored for Prison Officers.
In a battle of the league minnows Park United drew 3-3 with Wolves Pack. Elvis Edness, Kenny Francis and Eugene Simons were all on target for Park.
The match pitting KPMG against Somerset Extros was not played when the latter appeared with only five men and thus defaulted.
