Town stay on track
Dandy Town maintained their championship push with this comfortable First Division victory at St.John's Field yesterday.
McLee Smith, Devarr Boyles and Darren Simons each found the net for Town while substitute Rodney Bascome replied for Somerset.
Somerset had the first chance in the 15th minute but no one could get a foot on the ball in a goalmouth scramble which eventually resulted in a corner. And four minutes later they were made to pay when Town took the lead.
In a move down the left side, the ball fell to McLee Smith who planted his shot past Winslow Williams in the Somerset goal.
Town kept up the pressure and scored again in the 34th minute. Martin was again instrumental, showing good skill down the left flank and then providing an accurate cross for Boyles to fire home.
Midfielder and free kick specialist Sean Simmons almost pulled a goal back for Somerset but his curving dead-ball effort brought out a full length save from Jason Smith in the Town goal two minutes after the break.
The Trojans, however, profited soon after Rodney Bascome was brought on for the injured Lamaul Crofton and Keion Simmons came on to replace Marco Butterfield who was having a hard time down the left.
Bascome scored just six minutes later with a firm header from six yards following a cross from skipper Karl Roberts.
Somerset then pressed for an equaliser but instead it was Town who finished the scoring late in the game. This time Simons dribbled down the left side of the 18 yard box and slotted the ball past the keeper's right from an acute angle.
