Court proceedings came to a standstill as it was heard how the heavyset man lay on top of his daughter kissing and biting her neck and breasts.

After inserting his fingers into her vagina, he attempted to have intercourse with her.

The 43-year-old father of five will face sentencing in February pending the completion of a social inquiry report.

He is charged with touching the body of a young person in his care for a sexual purpose.

Crown counsel Mr. Phillip Storr, said the girl and her mother reported the incident at St. George's Police Station on December 8.

The girl told Police she went for a motor bike ride with her father the previous evening. On returning home, he summoned the girl into his bedroom and told her to remove her clothes and lie down with him.

The girl said she was afraid to say anything because her father was intoxicated at the time, Mr. Storr said.

"This is now an offence that pays a heavy penalty in Magistrates' Court,'' he told the court.

The accused yesterday admitted he had a long term problem with alcohol and said he was drinking heavily that night.

But he added he was seeking help to overcome his drinking problem.

Senior magistrate, the Wor. William Francis bailed the man for $1,000 with a like surety on the condition he did not contact the girl or her mother and lived away from them. He was also told to report to Police twice a week.

Mr. Storr did not object to bail.

PRISONER CHARGED WITH ESCAPING CUSTODY CTS Prisoner charged with escaping custody A prisoner suspected in a crime spree after he escaped custody last year appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Brian Carlton Rogers, 33, is charged with escaping custody, two counts of trespassing in a dwelling house, and one count of break, enter and theft, court was told.

A large manhunt for Rogers was launched after the December 16 escape. In one case Rogers is charged with stealing a handbag containing credit cards and cash worth $100.

The next day in Pembroke he is charged with threatening a woman with a knife before taking her handbag containing cash and personal items.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. William Francis ordered Rogers remanded in custody until next Tuesday. Because the armed robbery is a felony, Rogers will have to enter a plea later in Supreme Court.

Rogers was represented by lawyer Mr. John Cooper. The Crown was represented by Crown Counsel Mr. Phillip Storr.

CREWMAN BREAKS LEG AC Crewman breaks leg Oil tanker Velez Blanco diverted to Bermuda last night to drop off a 33-year-old crewman who fractured his leg.

Harbour Radio reported that the 800-foot Bahamian-registered ship, which was en route from Freeport, Bahamas, berthed in Five-Fathom Hole in St. George's where a pilot boat met her and brought the man into Ordnance Island.

He was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and the tanker left shortly after.

Representatives from the Hotel Division of the Bermuda Industrial Union and the Hotel Employers of Bermuda met to begin negotiations as the current award is due to expire on February 24 next year.
