Three seize computer scholarships
Telecommunications Minister Renee Webb recently presented three students with scholarships from The Computer Society of Bermuda (CSB).
CSB president Nick Faries said: "The students were very honoured, excited and appreciative to have the Minister present their awards."
Former Berkeley student Lesley Jane-Smith received a $5,000 CSB Overseas Information Technology Scholarship and she will attend Dalhousie University in Canada to pursue a double major in Information Technology and Mathematics.
Nicole Mitchell was awarded a $2,000 William and Christopher Archer Scholarship and will pursue a BSc. degree in Computing and Information Science at Queen's University in Ontario. Nicole graduated from Ontario's Trinity College School with honours.
And former Warwick Academy and Bermuda College student Christopher Terry was awarded the $2,000 SBI Networking Scholarship and will attend Hillsborough College where he will pursue a degree in Internet Services Technology. Christopher is a past recipient of the Computer Society's Bermuda College Scholarship.
The CSB is a non-profit organisation that was initially formed in 1975 and incorporated as a non-profit limited liability company in 1986 with the goal of fostering knowledge and usage of computer and information systems in Bermuda.
CSB recently adopted a broader definition of its role in the community, became a registered charity, and defined the following new mission: "To help realise the global opportunities provided by Information Technology and ensure that the necessary resources are available and accessible for the benefit of Bermuda."
