CD&P supports Bermudians

Bermuda's Conyers Dill & Pearman has announced it has given out scholarship awards worth more than $100,000 for 2001.

The law firm said that the move was yet another indication of CD&P's commitment to advancing the careers of promising Bermudians.

And CD&P said it has raised the amount of their scholarship award from $15,000 to $25,000 - with the increase extended to previous recipients who are still completing their courses of study.

The main recipient of the 2001 Scholarship Award is Michelle Ashton, who will get $25,000 for her LLB Law studies at the University of Bristol in England.

Miss Ashton is a former Bermuda High School pupil who went on to Boston College where she got a BA Cum Laude, in concentration-psychology.

Shavon Edwards and Daina Casling, who got the CD&P scholarships in 2000 and 1999 respectively, also got $25,000 each to continue their legal studies at Universities in London, England.

CD&P said they also continued to support leading local cyclist Elliot Hubbard who is completing his studies at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England.

Other bursaries were awarded to Kevia Maronie, Sara Schroter, Anita Hewey and Kim Wilkerson.

Ross Webber, Manager of Marketing & Business Development at CD&P, said: "As one of Bermuda's most established firms, CD&P seeks to encourage and facilitate the development of Bermudian talent, particularly in the field of law. These awards are a significant part of the contribution CD&P continues to make to the community.

"It is a pleasure for us to present such deserving individuals with these awards to assist in their professional development."

The awards were presented at a special function held at CD&P's Richmond Road Conference Centre last week.
