Victor Llewelyn Trott pleaded guilty to removing a bag filled with $33.71 worth of potatoes, codfish fillets and other items from the Hamilton MarketPlace on September 2.

The court heard that Trott was confronted by store management after he put the items in a bag and left without paying. He then dropped the bag and fled along Church Street, but was apprehended a short time later.

The 28-year-old apologised for his actions, explaining he was unemployed at the time and the theft was made "out of desperation''.

BURGLARS BUSY CTS Burglars busy Burglars broke into a property in Rose Gardens, Warwick, but it is not known whether anything was taken. The break-in, discovered last Thursday morning, is believed to have occurred overnight on Wednesday.

Police officers touring the Island have noticed people out at night in dark clothes who are difficult to see, even in vehicle lights.

Sgt. John Dale said: "People should be wearing white or fluorescent clothes or they should carry a torch.'' He said it was especially difficult to see people because of overgrown hedgerows which have not been cut down due to Government financial restraints.

THEFT DENIED CTS Thefts denied A Sandys man who appeared in Magistrates' Court denied stealing the equivalent of $1,652 from a Mexican soccer referee.

Neville J. Woods, 24, of Cooks Hill Road, pleaded not guilty to stealing nearly five million Mexican pesos, and was released on bail.

The case was adjourned for two weeks.

The Mexican official was on the Island for the Bermuda v El Salvador World Cup soccer match.

STOLE T-SHIRT CTS Stole T-shirt Drinking at a funeral led to a Sandys man stealing a T-shirt from a store, Magistrates' Court heard.

Sinclair Lewis Fox of Bob's Valley, Sandys, admitted stealing the shirt from Crackerbox gift shop, St. George's, on October 13. He was fined $25.

Sgt. Rex Osborne, prosecuting, said Fox took the $10 shirt while the shop keeper was serving another customer.

When arrested he told Police he did not know why he had stolen it, as he had several at home. Fox, 43, told the court: "My friend had a funeral, so I had a few drinks.'' CYCLIST INJURED AC Cyclist injured A 19-year-old Sandys parish man sustained leg injuries following a road accident at the junction of Middle Road and Cobbs Hill Road in Paget.

The man's Yamaha motorcycle was in collision with a Mitsubishi Colt car driven by a 30-year-old Warwick woman.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and later released.
