encouraging a teenager to become deeply involved in drugs.

Larry Burgess, 32, faces two years in prison after Police found "crack'' at his home in Rockville Lane, Pembroke.

But the former employee of the Spinning Wheel, in Court Street, was slammed by Acting Magistrate the Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons and the Police for involving 16-year-old Andre Sealey.

Sealey, of Warwick, gave himself up to Police admitting he was the "chef'' preparing the drugs when the raid on Burgess's home took place on July, 18 last year.

Prosecuting, Insp. Peter Duffy said that Police had raided the house but found the occupants had fled on their arrival through a rear window.

Insp. Duffy said: "They found a large quantity of rock-like substance on a table and other paraphernalia.

"Later, Sealey surrendered himself at Hamilton Police Station. He admitted being present in the house and said he was employed by the occupier as a chef, which is a person who converts cocaine from its powdered form into its rock form, commonly known as crack.'' The cocaine found was 87 percent pure and weighed 19.22 grams, with an estimated street value of $6,400 if broken down into half gram wraps.

Insp. Duffy said that Sealey had admitted, to Police: "This has been a learning experience for me.'' Burgess had arrived just after the raid saying he knew nothing about it and that no-one had been in his home.

He later admitted that the cocaine had been two ounces of his own which Sealey had been working on.

Insp. Duffy said: "There is some concern to the Police that Burgess has encouraged this young man who, at the age of 16, knows how to convert cocaine from its powdered form into crack. It also appears that he has been doing it for some time.'' He said that Sealey required some form of "quasi-parental'' guidance to help him.

But he called for Burgess to be jailed, giving him some credit for his guilty plea and frank admission to the Police and the fact that he had no previous convictions.

Mrs. Simmons allowed four weeks adjournment for social inquiry and psychological reports into Sealey.
