New Web-based learning tool for primary, middle schools

A web-based learning tool for English and Mathematics will be introduced at Government Primary and Middle schools next year.

In an effort to get parents up to grade on how Homeroom.com will work, free sessions are being offered by the Ministry in April and May.

Homeroom.com was designed by the Princeton Review Company and provides schools and teachers with data to improve academic performances. It also enables teachers to assign, monitor and track assignments. Students receive immediate feedback after an online assignment is completed.

Each question is designed to strengthen areas where students require extra practice. Both the teacher and parents have access to these reports and skill-specific resources, enabling all participants to engage in remedial activities with the student.

Parents or guardians will have access to Homeroom with a free parent account, which allows them to become actively involved in their child?s educational experience.

Access is available from any computer with an Internet connection.

Sessions will take place at Clearwater Middle School on April 18 and 25, Berkeley Institute on May 4 and 11 and at Spice Valley Middle School on May 12 and 19.

There is a limited enrolment of 12 people per session and those registering must have their child?s Homeroom student account information, or have an established parent account.

The instructors for the sessions are Marva Phillips and Grace Swan, who attended a week-long training session at the Ministry on the principles of Homeroom.com.
