A great source of revenue
July 1, 2012Dear Sir,Bermuda is too “ultraconservative”, not willing to accept change. I call it living in a time capsule. As a tourist resort Bermuda was and still is too pricey for the average blue collar worker to come here. The Cox administration is living in a time capsule also, I can’t stress that enough. The church is always trying to shoot-down casinos, but puts a blind eye to gambling at Cup Match. Why? This is a double standard. The church was against supermarkets opening on Sundays, it failed. They were against gay cruises to Bermuda, again a failure. This is a democratic country, so I have the freedom of speech, so here goes. The churches need to take a back seat, we’re talking revenue here. The casinos would be a great source of revenue — plus it will offer employment for Bermudians who are at present unemployed. We could take a page out of the Bahamas book! We could legislate a policy where Bermudians can work in the casinos, but not be allowed to play the gaming machines — it would be for the visitors only. It works well in the Bahamas. As a tourist resort Bermuda is lacking in the areas that the average visitor looks forward to.We have enough golf courses, so give us a ‘mini-disneyland’ at Morgan’s Point, in other words we need an amusement park, a fun place; Bermuda is boring. Use the prisoners at Westgate to help demolish the buildings at Morgan’s Point — avoid putting a financial burden on the tax payers. There needs to be police on patrol at Dockyard during the cruise ships stay.GEORGE BURCHERPaget
