Show must go on insists Carreras concert promoter
The principle promoter of a planned concert featuring opera star Jose Carreras has promised that the show will definitely go ahead, despite another setback.
US promoter Karl Hofer announced earlier this week that his company had been unable to come to an agreement with Island promotions company Triangle Enterprises, accusing the local agency, run by Buddy Hill, of wanting "control of all the money".
"I really want to do something nice for Bermuda," he said from his New York office. "I had planned to hire Mr. Hill as my local agent but we didn't come into an agreement.
"I invite Mr. Hill to help wherever he can. This whole thing is a wonderful thing for Bermuda. A lot of hard work is going into this."
Mr. Hofer added that Bermuda Broadcasting CEO Rick Richardson was now helping him with the production, which is set to be staged at Dockyard on April 4.
But he said he believed Mr. Hill could still contribute greatly to the performance and extending an invitation for Mr. Hill to help with the show if he wanted to.
When contacted by The Royal Gazette, Mr. Hill remained tight-lipped about the break-up, although he did confirm through a press statement that Triangle Enterprises, had severed its ties with Mr. Hofer.
"Our refusal to sign an agreement with Karl Hofer of KHI had nothing to do with money or financial matters and everything to do with trust, fair play, integrity and the value of our reputation," the statement said.
"We do not want to get into a slinging match with Mr. Hofer," Mr. Hill later told The Royal Gazette.
"It wasn't about money or finance."
Tickets for the event were due to go on sale last month, but printing delays and poor weather meant that they were unable to be flown out to the Island.
A spokesman for Mr. Hofer said the public will be notified of ticket availability as soon as they arrive in Bermuda. They are due to go on sale at the Music Box, Sound Stage and 27th Century Boutique.
