Colleague remembers dock accident victim as popular man who liked to laugh

The Canadian who fell to his last Sunday, after losing his footing on a residential dock, has been identified by Police as Mark Gossman, 44.

A kitchen designer at Bermuda Country Cabinets on Bakery Lane in Pembroke, Mr. Gossman had been resident in Bermuda for close to a year, renting a seaside property on the North Shore, adjacent to West Pembroke Primary School.

At around 8.30 p.m on Sunday, April 24, Mr. Gossman was helping to erect a boom for lifting and lowering boats into the water, when he slipped and fell on to the lower tier of the dock, landing head first before the boom crashed down on top of him.

Speaking to The Royal Gazette this week, a former work colleague at Bermuda Country Cabinets described Mr. Gossman as a man ?who liked a laugh? and was popular around the office.

?I heard the news on Monday morning,? he said.

?Needless to say we are all tremendously shocked and his loss has had a big impact among all of us. He was one of those guys who was constantly joking around.

?While he was a big ice hockey fan and he liked watching the Maple Leafs play, he was pretty upset about the loss of the season. But to say the mood has been a bit sombre around the place this past week would be putting it lightly.?

Minutes after the accident, an ambulance was on the scene to attend to Mr. Gossman, but he was pronounced dead soon after.

His elderly parents, who live in the Toronto, have been informed of their son?s demise.
