Philippe to pass to the east
While Tropical Storm Philippe is still classified as a potential threat to the Island it appears to be losing its steam as it heads east of the Bermuda.
Khamla Smith, a trainee meteorologist under duty meteorologist Elizabeth Harris, told that the storm is still classified as a potential threat because it is within 400 miles of the Island.
Philippe?s closest point to the island is expected to be 228 nautical miles east of the Island at 11 p.m. tonight.
Ms Smith also said that Philippe is expected to lose its tropical storm characteristics over the next day.
Bermuda can expect higher winds, though the peak winds of 20 to 30 knots were last night. Due to the higher winds and seas a small craft warning was in effect yesterday and continues today.
Wet weather is also predicted for today and this weekend.
The duty officer at Harbour Radio told that Philippe has not caused any distress calls from boats near Bermuda. He said it?s been ?quite quiet?.
He said the is the only ship that has changed its original plan due to Philippe. She moved from St. George?s to Hamilton late yesterday because there was some concern over being able to navigate Town Cut during choppy waters, but will depart today as planned.
Ms Smith was pleased with the course Philippe has taken: ?Overall, compared to when we first looked at the system, we are making out quite well.?
