City gives $10,000 to Cathedral food programme
A feeding programme at the Anglican Cathedral has been given a $10,000 boost by the Corporation of Hamilton.
Charles Gosling, the Mayor, made the presentation yesterday to the Rt Rev Nicholas Dill, Anglican Bishop of Bermuda, on the steps of City Hall.
Mr Gosling said 2020 had been “a very tough year for so many in Bermuda”.
He said the city had opted to forgo a holiday reception for dignitaries and residents, and give the funds to charity.
He added: “The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity is what makes Hamilton a City. We have had a strong and trusted relationship with its clergy and to be able to contribute to their feeding programme just made sense. It was the right thing to do and is money very well spent.
Bishop Dill said: “This is extremely kind. Our feeding programme cannot continue without this kind of generosity. When our funding was running out, it was our amazing volunteers that said we could not stop.”
He said vital support had also come from The Loren, Butterfield & Vallis, The MarketPlace and others.
The feeding programme serves lunch between noon and 1pm to upwards of 150 people daily.
Numbers are expected to rise with the continued pandemic and leading into the Christmas holidays.
