Zebras step up promotion chase

PHC's quick return to the First Division looks promising after this hammering of St. George's at Wellington Oval where Kenny Mills netted four times and player-coach Sammy Swan twice.

The Zebras, relegated last season but now four points clear, were much too strong for the east enders after they took a comfortable 3-0 lead at the half on the way to their biggest win of the season.

Swan opened the scoring in the 21st minute and Eddie Dowling and Mills added to the lead in the 31st and 33rds. Mills hit a second in the 54th when he beat 'keeper Detroy Smith to a cross to score with a header. Further pressure paid off in the 68th minute when Swan tucked home a low left-footed shot to make it 5-0.

Mills completed his hat-trick in the 73rd minute and added a fourth for good measure six minutes later to close out the scoring.

Swan blew the chance to complete his hat-trick when he missed a late penalty, his shot hitting the post.

St. David's 1 Som.Eagles 1 St. David's' promotion hopes stalled with this draw against visiting Eagles at Lord's.

Eagles took a 1-0 lead after 46 minutes through Darren Dowling but the home side fought back and equalised when Chae Simmons converted a penalty.

St. David's were hit when forward Lionel Cann received a second caution and was sent off by referee Leroy Wilson after 71 minutes. But Eagles were still unable to break through their defence.

Ireland Rangers 2 YMSC 1 Ten-man Ireland Rangers hung on to bring FA Cup giant-killers Social Club back down to earth with a bang at Somerset.

Bottom team Rangers took the lead in the 29th minute, when a shot from a free kick was deflected into the path of Sean Symons, who netted. Six minutes later, Rangers' Jermaine Burrows was sent off, but his side increased their lead with a 75th minute Duane DeRosa penalty, which came a minute after goalkeeper Dyke Lawrence had missed a penalty for Social Club. Runako Hill scored a consolation goal for Social in the last minute.
