?The best New Year?s party we?ve thrown?
They partied like it was 2006 ? all 6,000 of them.
Thousands of boisterous revellers attended the Island?s biggest party on New Year?s Eve at St. George?s Square for the annual onion drop.
The event has been successfully stagedfor 15 years and has never been rained out or cancelled.
?I believe it was the best New Year?s Eve party we?ve thrown, in terms of people, entertainment, weather and fireworks,? St. George?s Mayor E. Michael Jones said. ?It was absolutely amazing and there was no trouble.
?This is really the place to be on New Year?s it doesn?t cost a thing and there is a real variety of people.?
Mr. Jones said the fireworks display was wonderful and capped off the whole event.
Remarkably, after hosting thousands of revellers, the town was spotless by the next day.
?I drove around the town at 7:30 the next morning and you would never know we had a big party,? Mr. Jones said. ?It looked like the same small town it always is. Shannon Outerbridge and his crew need to be congratulated because they started their work at one in the morning and cleared the entire place up in a few hours.?
The Mayor thanked everyone who headed east on New Year?s and said it was great to see so many people enjoying the historic town. He urged more people to check out the party next year.
