St. George?s will hold two Corporation elections this year.

A revised date for nominations for the five positions of common councillors passed yesterday at 1 p.m. with still only four candidates putting their names forward for election.

It was hoped that extending the closing date for nominations from last Thursday to yesterday would have prompted at least one more hopeful to join the list.

But there was no new candidate, which means the planned election for a new Mayor and three Aldermen will go ahead as planned tomorrow but the common councillor election is now held over until February 16 in the hope that at least five people will step forward.

Tomorrow Mayor E. Michael Jones is seeking re-election in a head to head contest with former mayor Mariea Caisey. Five candidates are vying to be Aldermen: Kenneth Bascome, Edward Benevides, Beau Evans, Steven Hollis and Ross Smith.

The polls close at 8 p.m. with the results expected to be announced later in the evening.

Nominations for the common councillor posts will now stay open until February 9.
