Motorist pays tribute to Miguel Franco
A motorist involved in the accident which killed 17-year-old Miguel Franco has made an emotional appeal, saying he will forever be in her heart.
In a posting on the Internet site Facebook, Cathi McClure explains just how many lives can be affected by a road traffic accident, saying: "Miguel is in my heart and my life forever now."
She urges all road users to "please pay attention".
Mr. Franco, of Paget, suffered fatal head and internal injuries after the motorcycle on which he was a passenger collided with a truck and car in Middle Road, Warwick, on February 29. The teenager, an International Baccalaureate student at Warwick Academy, died in the early hours of March 2.
Ms McClure posted her comments on the ROLO (Remembering Our Loved Ones) site on Facebook. ROLO is a support group for families and friends of the victims of road accidents. Its objective is "to raise public awareness to the motoring public of how devastating these tragedies are, and to teach users that riding/driving safely is of utmost importance".
Ms McClure said: "As the driver of the car that was involved in the accident that killed 17-year-old Miguel Franco, I want to make a plea to all the young men that ride... think about how many lives this has affected and the hurt that so many people are feeling.
"If you don't think it can happen to you... THINK AGAIN... PLEASE! "I didn't know Miguel, but I feel like he was one of my friends, and I had to watch him suffer! It is not something that anyone should experience! It's going to take me a long time to get over this!
"Think about your families, friends, girlfriends that care about you. Don't put them through this. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION when you are on the road. If you start... others will follow. Set an example! "Miguel is in my heart and my life forever now, but I have to try to forget what happened. I will never forget him or his beautiful family."
