Willie Clemons and Dalkurd suffer relegation heartache
Bermuda’s Willie Clemons could not prevent Dalkurd from dropping into the third tier of Swedish football after going down to Landskrona Bois over a two-legged relegation play-off.
Despite finishing third from bottom in the Superettan, the country’s second tier, Dalkurd still had the opportunity to avoid relegation with two matches against their lower-league opposition, who finished second in Division One South.
However, after suffering a 2-0 defeat in the first leg away last Wednesday, Clemons’s side faced an uphill task in their quest for survival heading into the second leg on Saturday.
With the Bermuda midfielder omitted from the squad, Dalkurd gave themselves a glimmer of hope after Leach Holm put them ahead to reduce the overall deficit.
However, disaster struck ten minutes from time when Filip Olsson struck to reinstate Landskrona’s two-goal advantage and ultimately wrap up a 3-1 aggregate victory. As a result the two sides will switch divisions for next season.
Clemons, who joined the club from fellow Swedish side Bodens in January, still has 18 months to run on his existing deal with Dalkurd, who are based in the city of Uppsala.
