Blazers already celebrating after crucial win
With only relegated BAA standing between themselves and the league title it's easy to understand why Boulevard celebrated in a such a vociferous manner after trouncing the Trojans at Lord's in this First Division clash yesterday.
Now destiny is indeed in the hands of the Blazers who will capture the championship if they take the points next Sunday at BAA.
A magnificent display saw Boulevard methodically throw the Trojans out of gear from the start.
Their goals came from Stevie Wade after 50 minutes and George Smith a minute from time.
Such was the dominance of Boulevard that the visitors were forced to play second fiddle except for in a 10-minute period near the end after the home team began to tire following the ejection of Stevie Wade.
The lively winger was sent off by referee Roddy Burchall for kicking Kevin Bailey after 59 minutes.
The fact that Boulevard were able to maintain their edge, even after being reduced to 10 men, tells how out of sorts the visitors were.
Only two members of the west end team came out of the game with any distinction and they were goalkeeper Andre Hendrickson, who made numerous outstanding saves, and centre-half Jermaine Burrows.
The first half belonged to Boulevard, but it was a mystery why the game was scoreless after they had enough chances to blow the Trojans away by the interval.
While there were glaring misses by many forwards, the post and bar also stopped Boulevard breaking the deadlock.
Hendrickson started off his busy day by diving to block Kenny Hill's point-blank shot after only 10 minutes.
He followed this up after 28 minutes when he rose to get his hands to a dipping chip from Dwight Warren. And, after 37 minutes, he dived to tip Warren's 14-yard drive around the post.
Boulevard's hard luck wasn't restricted to saves by the goalkeeper. After 17 minutes Warren headed a Wade corner against the bar, and five minutes later a Hill shot skimmed off the top of the bar. The post intervened two minutes later to stop a close-range blast from Wade.
The Trojans were forced to defend almost throughout the first 45 minutes, having only one direct shot on goal -- a free kick from 17 yards that Duane DeRoza struck over.
Wade gave Boulevard a deserved 1-0 lead just five minutes after the break when he accurately finished off a cross from left full-back Albert Caisey, but when the scorer was sent off minutes later his team were less adventurous.
The Trojans blew a scoring chance after 70 minutes when Rodney Bascome put a Lamaul Crofton cross over the bar from just six yards. There was further frustration four minutes later for the visitors when a shot by Bascome after a goalmouth scramble was cleared off the line by Caisey.
During a counter-attack Boulevard went ahead 2-0 when Smith took a pass from the hard-working Johnny Boyles, brilliantly dribbled past midfielder Randy Simmons and sent home a sharply-angled shot from the right past the diving Hendrickson.
