Somerset in driver's seat after victory over Town
Goals by Jerry Webb and Lamaul Crofton spurred Somerset to victory over Dandy Town and to the head of the First Division.
Webb struck late in the first half from a perfectly orchestrated indirect free-kick to put the visitors ahead, while Crofton put paid to any comeback hopes with an insurance tally in injury time.
The win moved Somerset into first place with 20 points, a point clear of former leaders Town and Boulevard, and into the driver's seat.
And with just two league fixtures remaining Somerset have the title within their grasp.
Determination played a key part and while the score-line would indicate a decisive advantage for the west enders, it was Town who dominated for vast periods only to be let down by poor finishing coupled with fine work by Trojans' 'keeper Andre Hendrickson.
Hendrickson had to be at his acrobatic best to thwart numerous Town sorties, especially in the second half when Town -- down 1-0 -- pushed increasing numbers forward in search of an equaliser.
Somerset had the first clear chance in the 19th minute when Anthony Burchall blasted over the cross-bar after a feed from Rodney Bascome, with 'keeper Anthony Manders out of position.
At the other end Hendrickson was called into action to pluck a searching cross from Kurt Martin that appeared destined for the head of Town striker Darron Simons and moments later was forced to scramble away one that actually was headed by the forward after Nairobi Smith had supplied the cross.
Smith was a constant source of concern for the Trojans' defence with his boundless energy and dribbling skills on the flanks.
He always appeared able to find space along the touch-lines, eluding markers and providing crosses that kept Hendrickson and his five-man defence on their toes.
Still, it was Somerset who found the net through Webb after 41 minutes.
Referee Stuart Crockwell awarded the visitors an indirect free-kick inside the penalty area. Reggie Tucker passed the ball short to Webb, who curved the ball around the defensive wall into the left corner past a flailing Manders.
The second half was virtually one way traffic in favour of Town, but all chances were for nought as Hendrickson met each challenge.
Clearly frustrated by their failed efforts and running out of time, Town pushed everyone forward in a last ditch attempt at the equaliser.
However, rather than get the goal they sought, they paid the price for leaving too few back as Webb and Crofton combined with neat one-two passing, beating lone defender Wylie Rudo and having Crofton slot the ball past Manders from close range.
