A wonder-strike by Angelo Simmons was not enough to earn Boulevard a place in the semi-finals of the Martonmere Cup despite dominating a dismal Somerset Trojans at Devonshire Rec. last night.

Boulevard required a win, which they richly deserved with an impressive performance, especially in mind of the youthful look of their team.

It seemed like it was not going to be their night when they missed two glorious chances in quick succession with Wolde Place hitting the post with an empty net at his mercy, before Lamaul Crofton thudded the rebound against the crossbar.

They fell behind against the run of play early in the second half when Trojan's Rodre Wilson was pulled down in the box with skipper Jelani Scott converting the spot-kick.

But Boulevard have a fearless edge about them at present and hit back through the dangerous Angelo Simmons who rounded three men before unleashing a shot from 20 yards, giving Trojans goalkeeper Timmy Figureido no chance.

Stephen Astwood, standing in for coach Dennis Brown, was unimpressed with Trojans' display and admitted his team had been lucky to progress.

"I was not impressed at all with the way we played," said Astwood. "I thought Boulevard played very well and we were lucky to get a draw. It's still early days but we've got to improve our performances and fast.

"We've still got one or two players to bring back in and maybe that will give us a lift. But that was a pretty much full strength team out there."

The Martonmere Cup semi-finals see Devonshire Cougars take on Dandy Town, and PHC play Somerset Trojans on Tuesday, October 16, at Devonshire Rec.
