A Pembroke man has been sentenced to 30 days in prison after pleading guilty to indecently assaulting a 15-year-old boy over Cup Match.

Jose Fernando Serodio approached the teenager and two other boys at Horseshoe Bay Beach on the second day of Cup Match last summer, Magistrates’ Court heard this morning.

The boy was swimming at the Southampton beach with relatives around 5pm, said Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess.

Serodio approached the teenager and asked if he could “show him something”.

The young boy felt uncomfortable and left the water with his relatives.

Serodio followed them and started conversation during which time he was observed holding his penis.

The boy walked away, at which point Serodio grabbed his right hand and squeezed it and then winked at him.

The court heard Serodio had resided in Bermuda for 20 years and was currently employed as a landscaper.

Serodio’s lawyer, Nancy Vieira, said he was “heavily under the influence” and “unaware that what he did was wrong”.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo sentenced Serodio to 30 days imprisonment with 12 months probation upon release.
