College players inspire Swallows

Swifts A 1 Swallows A 4 A strong Swallows side took to the field against Swifts, boosted by the return of several college players.

Cath Griffiths opened the scoring for Swallows after Liz Osborne pushed the ball through to her for a clear shot on goal.

Swallows continued to pressurise the Swifts defence and Sam Adams made it 2-0.

The second half was much the same as the first with Griffiths adding to her tally after a cross from Adams.

Adams netted the fourth and final goal, deftly slotting home with a reverse stick after a shot from Osborne was deflected off the keeper's pads.

Heavy rain stopped play for 10 minutes and when the match resumed Swifts scored a consolation goal.

Cardinals A 0 Canaries A 5 A depleted Cardinals managed to hold Canaries to just a single goal in the first half -- Maryellen Jackson scoring from a short corner routine.

The second period was a different story though, Lisa DeSilva getting the ball rolling with a run past two defenders for Canaries' second.

Rhonda Rawlins made it three and Emma Simmons hit the fourth from another short corner. DeSilva rounded off the rout with her second.

Cardinals B 2 Canaries B 2 This match was far more even than the `A' game.

A goal from winger Tania Theriault got Cardinals off the mark but Canaries responded when Ali Cameron found the back of the net.

Both teams had chances in the second period -- Cardinals converting one of theirs through Heidi Lynam after a great pass by Michelle Clark, and Karla Preece levelling for Canaries.

Men's League Wasps 0 Upstarts 5 Upstarts had their opponents on the backfoot from the start.

A hat-trick by John Uprichard and two goals from Martin Murphy sealed Wasps' fate.

Swift passing by the midfield and bullet crosses from Alan Gilbertson stretched the Wasps backline, while at the back Jon Kook and Rob Hargadon assisted 'keeper Mike Foster to ensure a shutout.

This was possibly Upstarts best outing of the season.
