Man remains in stable condition
The 28-year-old man shot Sunday evening on St. Monica's Road remains in stable condition at the King Edward Memorial Hospital.
Yesterday Police said they believed the man, who has not been named, was shot when two individuals on a motorcycle rode by St. Monica's Road at the junction with Government Gate.
Neighbours on the street said they heard gunfire around 6.45 p.m. with one woman stating she heard several shots. Another neighbour said: "It seemed to happen right outside my house. I was on my laptop. I heard the shooting but the car had taken off by the time I got up. I didn't even see what type of car it was.
"I heard gunshots but who was shot and where it happened I can't tell you. I've heard it happen before - this is the third time. I always seem to be doing something in my house when it happens."
Tonight community members are urged to attend a meeting at Victor Scott Primary School to discuss ways to make the area safer particularly for children and the elderly.
The meeting has been organised by churches in the East Pembroke area. Bishop Lloyd Duncan told The Royal Gazette yesterday it was important everyone work together.
"It is going to take more than one institution to tackle this problem," he said. "The shootings have not stopped. "It is going to take us coming together and to address these problems.
Bishop Duncan will speak at the event, as will MP Michael Weeks, Reverend Nick Dill and Major Kenneth Dill, as well as Police community officers and representative from the Pembroke Parish Council Yesterday Police also issued another appeal for witnesses to the November 13 shooting last year at the Southside Cinema in St. George's Parish.
Shaki Minors, 26, from Pembroke, and Renee Kuchler, 24, from Warwick, were shot as they left the cinema at 11.30 p.m. A Police spokesman said: "Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit are aware that there were over 140 persons at the cinema that night. Whilst investigators have interviewed a number of people that were there, they are seeking to obtain information from anyone that has pertinent information, and who has not already spoken to the Police on this matter.
"Detectives are also seeking information from persons who were in the area between 9.15 p.m. and 11.45 p.m. that same night, who may also have information pertinent to the inquiry." Police are urging witnesses of Sunday's shooting and the November shooting, or anyone with pertinent information, to contact the Serious Crime Unit.
