Husband and wife are 1-2 in big 5K
As far as anyone can recall it was a Bermuda first - a husband and wife who finished first and second overall in an Island road race.
Chris Estwanik led the way in the annual Butterfield and Vallis 5K road race yesterday, seemingly unhindered by the warm conditions and 90 percent humidity.
The 27-year-old former US international, who now lives on the Island with wife Ashley, took control of the race as soon as it got underway on Serpentine Road next to the junction with Woodland Road.
He remained in front throughout and ended with a time of 15 minutes 35 seconds
The next runner to finish was Ashley Estwanik who ran an impressive 17.18 to stay well clear of third placed Craig Rothwell, who was himself the only other athlete who managed to dip under 18 minutes.
The road race attracted a field of 263 athletes, with a further 81 in the junior race and 111 in the 5K walk.
In the junior race over 1.6 miles Dage Minors was the fastest boy aged 12 or under, while Jordan Bascome was fastest girl.
The 5K walk was headed once again by Sinclair Smith, in 32.27 from David Mallon (33.17)
