Bean just misses medal

metres final during the opening day of competition at the CAC Championships last night in Barbados. Bean advanced to the semi-finals of the 100 metres after placing second in his heat in the morning with a time of 10.78 seconds.

In the semi-finals last evening Bean placed fourth in his heat and missed out on a place in the final by one place. Bean came even closer to a medal in the long jump after producing his second best jump of the year (7.52 metres) for fourth place. Unfortunately he was three centimetres short of the bronze medal which was won with a jump of 7.55. The winning jump was 7.75 metres. Damian Simmons failed to qualify for the final of the men's 800 after his semi-final performance evening while Ashley Couper placed fifth in her heat in the women's 800 metres semi-final. Xavier James sustained a hamstring injury in the men's 100 metres heats and could miss today's 200 metres. Terrence Armstrong (1500 metres), triple jumper Brian Wellman and Kavin Smith (half-marathon) will compete tomorrow.
