Donawa, Eatherley toast of the Town
victory to her unbeaten streak as the road running season continued on Sunday with the Riihiluoma's Flying Colours' Round the Town Race.
For the second week in succession Donawa got the better of rival John Wassenaar, this time by a convincing 48 seconds over the five mile route around Hamilton.
Having beaten Wassenaar in the previous Sunday's Butterfield and Vallis 5K, Donawa again set a hot pace. And his winning time of 25 minutes, 57 seconds was a full 90 seconds faster than the finishing time of 1999 winner Kavin Smith.
Smith, recently returned from the Las Vegas Marathon, skipped Sunday's race.
Wassenaar took second place in 26.45 while David Dunwoody placed third in 29.42. Andrew Doble, sixth overall in 30.35, was the leading master (over 40) and Tristan Francis (43.26) the top junior.
Eatherley, who won 11 races in a row last year, and has continued to dominate in 2000, improved on her winning performance of 1999, clocking 30.18. That was 30 seconds faster than a year ago.
Lynn Patchett placed second in 32.06 and Georgia Belboda third in 33.36.
Annette Hallett (34.38) was the leading master.
A separate relay race for schoolchildren saw Somerset Primary and Warwick Academy dominate the primary division. Somerset took gold in the boys' race and silver in the girls, while Warwick claimed silver and bronze among the boys and bronze in the girls' race.
Top junior Coyatito Smith anchored Sandys to victory in the Middle Schools' division, ahead of Spice Valley and Warwick Academy. Saltus and Clearwater placed one-two among the girls.
Anna Eatherley: another comfortable road race victory.
