The People’s Campaign has implored Government to protect seniors after its pensions failed to reflect cost of living increases.

In its monthly public evaluation newsletter, a campaign spokesperson said: “The People’s Campaign understand the financial constraints of our current economic climate but implores the Government to look for ways to protect our most vulnerable.

“In light of the recent revelation that there is an estimated $35 million in government pension arrears owed by delinquent employers, the Government must take aggressive action to recoup this money.”

The Ministry of Finance has not yet responded to requests for a comments.

In a separate note, the campaign acknowledged the temporary shelter set up by Government after the closure of the Centre Against Abuse’s shelter. However, it said that Government should make it a priority to provide funding for a permanent shelter. It also applauded the Government for the launch of a new website that aims to shed light on ministerial travel expenses.
