Mr. Williams -- in hospital for months with a mystery illness -- is to be replaced in St. George's North by former Ministry of Finance official turned guest house owner Delaey Robinson.

And spurned would-be candidate Kenny Bascome could be considering running as an Independent in a revenge move, according to sources in St. George's.

But Mr. Bascome could not be contacted for comment on what he is likely to do last night.

The Progressive Labour Party has stayed tight-lipped over Mr. Williams' future for weeks.

But the party are set to make an official announcement today that Mr. Robinson will replace Mr. Williams as party leader Jennifer Smith's running mate.

The move will end months of speculation over Mr. Williams' political future.

The PLP are also set to announce Magistrate Arthur Hodgson and ex-Civil Servant Randy Horton as the PLP team for Hamilton West.

And with Ms Smith and her new running mate, the PLP slate for the upcoming General Election will be complete.

Mr. Robinson is set to be introduced to the constituency when Mr. Robinson and Ms Smith hit the doorsteps on Sunday.

He could not be contacted for comment last night -- and party spokesmen did not return calls from The Royal Gazette .

But -- in an advert due to run in The Royal Gazette -- Mr. Robinson laid out the bones of his election platform.

His statement said: "Let courage and wisdom prevail in the nurturing of our children.

"Let us radically rethink our priorities before there is further erosion of our environment and we see the lives of our children and our youths destroyed.'' And he added: "A PLP Government is uniquely equipped to fulfill this vision.'' Mr. Robinson -- owner of Aunt Nea's Inn in the old town -- was unsuccessful in a bid to enter local politics last year.

He came bottom of the poll behind ex-Senator Noela Haycock, Terrence Roberts and Ross Smith in the elections for Aldermen on the Corporation of St.

George's.

But Mr. Bascome came third out of seven candidates for Common Councillor seats.

Mr. Smith is also believed to have been considered by Ms Smith as a running mate.

Mr. Robinson took over the old Hillcrest Guest House, owned by his family, recently and completely renovated it and renamed it after the alley in which it stands.
