Sims on brink of Nationwide card
A place on the Nationwide Tour beckons for Michael Sims after an impressive two rounds over the weekend saw him finish in a tie for 65th at PGA Tour Q School in La Quinta, California.
While Saturday?s one-under 71 on the Jack Nicklaus tournament course saw him slip from 74th to 81st out of 153 golfers, the 27-year-old produced his best effort of the week so far yesterday, firing a three-under 69 on the adjacent PGA Stadium-West course to enjoy a sizeable jump up the leaderboard.
With one round to go today, Sims is two-under for the tournament and some six shots off the top 30 and ties required to earn his PGA Tour card ? but still within the 50 next best finishers who will all qualify for a full-time slot on the Nationwide next season.
The former Bermuda Open champion has produced rounds of 72, 75, 71, 71 and 69 up to now, and will know that one more sub-par round will most likely leave him home and dry this evening.
