Primary school registration ends tomorrow – MOE

The registration deadline for primary school-aged children is tomorrow, the Education Ministry warned yesterday.

Assurances that no public schools would be closed in 2010/2011 were simultaneously given, with the Ministry eager to calm parents' fears.

Concerns were raised in recent weeks after the media reported the possible closure of East End, Prospect, Gilbert Institute, Heron Bay and Dalton E. Tucker primary schools.

"I have said several times since the media first reported on possible school closures that there are absolutely no plans to close any public primary schools in the coming year," said Education Minister El James. "There were never any plans to close public primary schools for the 2010/2011 school year, and I can assure all parents again that no public primary schools will be closing for the school year 2010/2011."

The Minister insisted closing schools is not on the agenda for September.

The focus, he said, is the Cambridge Curriculum, principal leadership and teaching, and learning.

Registration is today and tomorrow between 8.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. at the school of enrolment.

Enrolment forms are available at the schools and at the Ministry headquarters, 14 Dundonald Street. Forms are also available online: http://www.moed.bm.
