Culture Fest for 'uptown' gets underway tomorrow

For the third year in a row, Hamilton's Uptown Market will come alive on Thursday nights – starting tomorrow.

Culture Fest, held by the Uptown Market Association and the Department of Tourism, will start its season tomorrow running until September 25, featuring local art, food, and entertainment along with a number of international acts. Based on the turnout in previous years, Uptown Market chief administrative officer Andre Bassett expects to see between 500 and 800 people at the event.

The weekly summer festival promises to start with a bang, with a Gombey Troop, a performance by accomplished violinist Taylor Rankin, and a set by local reggae band Da Core.

Children will be entertained in the Kids Zone, in Dundonald Street, complete with a fun castle. Security will be provided by the Uptown Marshall programme.

As the summer progresses, Culture Fest will host a number of special events including karaoke competitions, movie nights, and performances by international acts, including jazz musician Joey Sommerville, who will perform on June 26. Events begin at 7 p.m. and should end at 10 p.m.

The weekly celebration, organised in the style of Harbour Nights, aims to help revitalise the Court Street area of North Hamilton while entertaining locals and tourists alike.

"We're looking for a cross cultural turnout," said Mr. Bassett.
