Rams dig deep to earn spot in final
Commercial Division Knock-out Cup final after close semi-final wins at the weekend.
The most intriguing match took place at Prospect field, where Rams showed that there remains a spark in their battle weary legs.
Belying their lowly position in the Group A standings, Rams battled Forties to a 1-1 stalemate after 90 minutes, but outshone their opponents in the penalty-kick, winning 5-4.
Earlier Franco Caperra had scored to put Forties ahead, but Eugene (Pickles) Smith managed a late equaliser to send it to a shoot-out.
Robin Hood also had to come from behind to defeat BAA Wanderers at St. John's field.
Hood fell behind early to a Gary Wilson strike, but Hood soon struck back as Mike Haromy equalised and then David Mason scored to allow Hood to carry a 2-1 advantage into the interval.
Wanderer's Frank Brewster converted a penalty to tie the score in the second half, but the lead was short lived as John Beardsley struck what proved to be the winner for Hood.
Penalties were also called on to decide the Alliance Division Knock-out Cup semi-final between Dandy Town and Devonshire Colts after the pair ended regulation tied at 3-3.
Colts proved the better marksmen as they knocked in four penalty kicks compared to three for Town.
Scoring in regulation for Town were Ryan Evans, Nairobi Smith and Malcolm Hewey, while Aljame Zuill netted a hat-trick for Colts.
Colts will have to wait to find out their final opponent since the match between Prospect and PHC was not played.
