French comedy and nuclear weapons documentary feature in 'Weekend Film Series'

'Heartbreaker', an action-packed romantic comedy, pairs two of France's biggest young stars: Romain Duris and actress/singer Vanessa Paradis.

A French romantic comedy and an anti-nuclear documentary are the featured films during the 'Weekend Film Series' on Sunday.

The monthly event, at the Tradewinds Auditorium at Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI), will see the screening of documentary, 'Countdown to Zero' and 'Heartbreaker'

"Just when you thought that the end of the Cold War signified the end of the nuclear threat along comes 'Countdown to Zero' to tell us that the threat has never been greater," said Duncan Hall, Weekend Film Series programming director of the.

"With nine nations possessing nuclear weapons capabilities and others racing to join them, the world is held in a delicate balance that could be shattered by an act of terrorism, failed diplomacy, or a single accident."

'Countdown to Zero' has been hailed by critics as "exhilarating…. a remarkably beautiful movie" in the Wall Street Journal, and "extraordinary powerful… you should see this movie… you should see it again" in the Huffington Post.

Countdown to Zero' seeks to mobilise public opinion by making a compelling argument about the necessity for nuclear disarmament.

'Heartbreaker' is an action-packed romantic comedy pairing two of France's biggest young stars Romain Duris of 'The Beat That My Heart Skipped, Paris' and actress/singer Vanessa Paradis 'Girl on the Bridge'.

According to reviews, the film is charming, funny and effortlessly cool, as Alex (Mr Duris) is a professional heartbreaker who for a fee can turn any husband, fiancé or boyfriend into an ex. Alex has one ironclad rule: He only breaks up couples where the woman is unhappy.

His latest job will put that rule to the test. The target is Juliette, a beautiful heiress who is set to marry the man of her dreams.

With ten days until the wedding, Alex has been hired by her father to carry out his most daring seduction yet which risks him being caught by his ruthless personal creditors, angry exes, and the beautiful and independent Juliette herself.

But worst of all, will he discover to his own cost that when it comes to love, the perfect plan doesn't exist?

The 'Weekend Film Series', held monthly, is a joint production of Bermuda Documentary Film Festival director Mr Hall and the BUEI.

Bermuda Docs is on Facebook, where filmgoers can find trailers of the two films.

'Countdown to Zero' is being shown at 3 pm, and 'Heartbreaker', screens at 5.15 pm.

Tickets $15, are on sale now in the Oceans Gift Shop at the BUEI.

When you thought the Cold War was over Countdown to Zero' a documentary appears that reminds of a not too distant past.
