Independent Hotelier of the World award have had experience at hotels in Bermuda.
Mr. Ted Kleisner had a stint as general manager of the Southampton Princess Hotel from 1984 to 1986 before returning to his previous hotel, The Greenbrier, in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, as president.
While in Bermuda, Mr. Kleisner, a third generation hotelier, was active in the Hotel Employers of Bermuda and was on the negotiating arm of the Bermuda Hotel Association.
He said yesterday: "I had the most wonderful time in Bermuda. Business-wise it was a great growing period for me.'' The 215-year-old Greenbrier is one of America's premier resorts. Set in 6,500 acres, it has 700 guest rooms, three golf courses, 20 tennis courts, trap and skeet ranges for clay-pigeon shooting, ten-pin bowling, a mineral bath and spa, and horse-riding facilities.
It has won the Mobil five star award for the last 33 years and the American Automobile Association five diamond award since its inception in 1971.
As well as being president and managing director of The Greenbrier, Mr.
Kleisner is also president of the Greenbrier Resort Management Company, which runs four resorts and manages a fifth.
The other Independent Hotelier of the World nominee with local connections is Mr. Jean-Claude Irondelle , who began his hotel career at Elbow Beach in 1952.
Mr. Irondelle is currently managing director of Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, in Cap d'Antibes, France.
The winner of the award will be decided by the readers of Hotels magazine and will be announced at a prize-giving in New York City in November.
Mr. Lawrence Sticca has been appointed Manager of the Real Estate Division of Bermuda Provident Company, responsible for property appraisals, sales and rental property management. Mr. Sticca previously worked for Leonard Gibbons Real Estate.
