`Prepare for the future and do your best'
Sandys Middle School students took centre stage during their annual student conference, a special event held to encourage pupils to explore their future career options.
Teachers and the middle school student environment play a huge part in defining how important the value of an education is and how it can have a positive impact in the business-minded world.
Master of Ceremonies Eric Bean, 13 of M3 Green, greeted all school members and special guests. "It is with a great deal of pride that I welcome everyone to our Annual Student Conference,'' he said last week Friday.
The students arrived early dressed in smart and casual businesswear in preparation for the various workshops throughout the day.
The workshops were being held for students and school staff and they focused on inspiring students by using members of the business community to enhance the students' self-esteem in order for them to achieve their personal life goals.
Special guest Youth, Sport and Recreation Minister Dennis Lister told his young audience: "This day is for you. Be prepared for the future and be the best you can be.
"And if you do well, you could enter a career rather than just find a job.'' The importance of "self'' was thoroughly stressed to the students who were told to try and live each day with a commitment to Christ and God's word and that eventually old values pass away and new values will take over.
