Openers lead Flatts to title-clinching victory
respectively in the First Division Open League on Sunday following wins over bottom teams Somerset Bridge and Social Club.
But the league may not exist next season as there are indications that Open play will be scrapped, which would scuttle Flatts and St.David's hopes of promotion to the Premier Division.
However, if the Open League is retained, Warwick will be kicking themselves as they missed out on second place after losing to PHC in a close match at Southampton Oval while St. David's won by default over Social Club at Lord's.
Flatts 322 Som. Bridge 135 An opening stand of 129 between Millard Bean (71) and Andrew Richardson (50) laid the foundation for Flatts' 187-run victory at Devonshire Rec. which gave them the top spot in the Open.
The top six Flatts batsmen all reached double figures as they improved to 228-3 thanks to knocks of 39 from number three Troy Dean and 37 from player-coach Dwayne Leverock. Rodney Woolridge and Gershon Gibbons both scored 20 while Rahji Edness stroked 33 and Troy Bean 17 in the tailend to help post the 300.
Denzil Dill led the Bridge bowling with four for 84 while David Jones claimed three for 60 and A.Wilson two for 47.
In the Bridge batting, M.Pringle and O'Neil Virgil were high men with 19 each while Ronald Richards scored 16. Leverock claimed four for 22 from 12 overs of spin while Troy Dean took three for 50.
PHC 218 Warwick 200 A last wicket stand of 38 in an hour between father and son Hoyt Zuill and Davon Govia nearly pulled off victory for Warwick at Southampton Oval. But Kallan Johnston ended their hopes by picking up his second wicket of the match when he trapped Govia lbw for 32 just as the 200 came up. He and his father had taken the score from 162 and were closing in on the winning total of 219 before PHC clinched victory.
The top seven Warwick batsmen all reached double figures but the PHC total of 218 proved just out of, despite an opening stand of 50 between Trent Simmons (38) and Johnny Nusum (14).
Ritchie Foggo helped them recover from 77-3 with a knock of 37 whie Reginald Pitcher added 21 in the middle order to keep them in sight of victory. Warwick went from 156-5 to 162-9 as Shoron Hunt came back for a second spell and claimed two quick wickets.
Hunt was the pick of the PHC bowlers, taking three for 53 from 11 overs while Johnston took two for 17, Mark Smith two for 48 and captain Cal Waldron two for 50.
The PHC tail also wagged as number eight Millard Rawlins scored 49 to help move the team total from 178-8 to 218-9. Arthur Richards scored 36, opener Kenny Mills 34 and Mark Smith 22.
Reginald Pitcher claimed four for 59 from 13 overs.
