been eliminated from Tuesday's St. George's municipal elections.

Corporation secretary Larry Jacobs yesterday announced that Christopher West had been disqualified from the Common Councillor's elections for technical reasons -- the lack of a signature.

But the axed contender did not rule out trying his luck again in three years time.

"I am disappointed, I'm not sure if I would have won but I was looking forward to running and putting forth some new ideas,'' Mr. West said. "I don't know if I'll run again (during the next election) it depends if I have any more new ideas to put forth.'' Mr. West, the operator of the White Horse Tavern, was disqualified because his voter registration form lacked his landlord's signature -- a legal requirement -- when he first submitted it.

St. George's town elections are governed by the Municipalities Act of 1923 which states a voter must register before an official notice is placed in a newspaper.

The official notice for the St. George's election was first advertised on October 17.

Mr. Jacobs said Mr. West submitted his voter's registration well before the October 17 deadline.

"However, the application was not accompanied by the landlord's signature, which is required since Mr. West would be voting as the occupier of the White Horse tavern, which is owned by another party,'' he explained. "The owner was off the Island, so the signature could not be gathered at that time.

"Later Mr. West provided me with the signature of the landlord, thus meeting the Xrequirements for registration.'' But the signature was obtained after the October 17 deadline, thus creating a legal issue for the November 4 election.
