BTC: DSL speed to improve significantly with upgrade
BTC?s DSL customers may experience more interruptions to their service as the company moves to complete a ?next generation? upgrade to improve its network?s infrastructure and capacity and make its DSL speed and performance 16 times faster.
The addition of a management component to its network follows BTC?s completion of an upgrade on its backbone network which it began nine months ago.
The completed management component will allow BTC to more effectively spot and remedy potential faults in the network. The ?next generation? network will also provide both business and residential customers with clearer, more consistent connectivity including access to Internet applications such as entertainment games, video conferencing, video viewing, as well as audio conferencing, BTC said. ?We are excited to be able to significantly improve the speed and reliability of broadband services to all customers on the Island,? said Francis R. Mussenden, president and CEO of BTC (pictured). The move to improve was spurred by demand from both international business and a more sophisticated residential market which has greater expectations and a higher level of disposable income and education compared with most other countries, BTC said in a statement.
