Three local karters competed at the recent Rock Island Grand Prix karting street race in Illinois, with Hamilton Parish resident Delton White finishing

Record lap times were recorded in 11 of the 12 classes during the Labour day weekend race through the streets of the Downtown Arts and Entertainment District in Rock Island. In all, 78 competitors surpassed speed standards set in 1998, the first year computer timing was used to set starting positions.

Minnesota's Jason King won the new 80cc Shifter with White finishing second.

St. George's pair Ronnie Denbrook and Anthony Bean also took part in the race, with Denbrook finishing 24th out of 25 drivers in the Yahama Heavy class and Bean 21st of 28 racers in the 125cc Shifter class.
