Parents of Primary Five and Six students will soon learn how their children will fit into Government's middle school system which is scheduled to be

Education Minister the Hon. Gerald Simons yesterday confirmed that a group of Amalgamated Bermuda Union of Teachers and Association of School Principals executives met with education officers on Monday to discuss transition proposals.

"We reviewed their draft report and some modifications were suggested,'' he said, adding that the changes suggested were related to language in the report more than subject content.

While Mr. Simons would not provide details of the report "until it is finalised'', he said the proposals will be discussed with parents of children "most affected by these decisions''.

And he will be meeting with boards of governors of aided schools which will be affected by middle school plans.

"I want this matter to be resolved by the time school ends this June,'' Mr.

Simons said.

BREAK-INS ARE BEING INVESTIGATED CRM Break-ins are being investigated Detectives are investigating break-ins in St. George's Parish which occurred Monday.

A Police spokesperson said in both cases, entry was gained through unsecured windows.

In one incident, thieves entered a residence on Governor's Alley during daylight hours.

"After an untidy search (they) made off with a black leather purse containing a driver's licence and credit cards, a lady's Rolex watch, three gold pendants and four gold rings.

"And sometime during the night thieves entered a home on Fort George Hill and stole three gold rings from the bedroom where the occupants were sleeping and about $95 from another room.'' Also reported stolen on Monday was $100 from a Spring Benny Road, Sandys resident.

The thieves entered the home after tearing the fly screen to the back door.

AMERICAN FINED FOR CANNABIS CTS American fined for cannabis An American was fined $1,000 yesterday after being caught with 12.2 grams of cannabis at the Civil Air Terminal.

Christian Farrell, 33, became "perilously'' close to being jailed, said Magistrate the Wor. John Judge.

The drug was found in a plastic bag in Farrell's left sock, Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told Magistrates' Court.

Police searched him after he arrived at the terminal at around 1 p.m. on April 17.

Farrell admitted possessing cannabis, and cigarette papers used for drugs. He was fined $150 for the second charge.

"I exercised extremely bad judgment,'' he told Mr. Judge.

MAN WAS TWICE OVER LEGAL LIMIT CTS Man was twice over legal limit A Warwick man who was nearly twice over the legal drink-drive limit was fined $350 yesterday and taken off the road for a year.

Edwin Dowling, 41, of Cedar Heights Lane, pleaded guilty at Magistrates' Court to driving while impaired.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said Dowling was stopped on Mount Road, St.

George's, on March 29.

A Police car and a private vehicle were forced to swerve because of Dowling's erratic driving, said Insp. Duffy.

Tests showed he had 192 milligrammes of alcohol -- the legal limit is 100 -- in 100 millilitres of blood.

FARE BOLTED WITHOUT PAYING CRM Fare bolted withoug paying A taxi driver was left in the lurch on Tuesday night when a female passenger bolted without paying a $12.80 fare.

Police yesterday reported the incident which occurred about 11 p.m. at Soundview Road in Sandys.

The passenger, after being driven from South Road in Paget, excused herself to get the cab fare from her boyfriend, Police said.

The taxi driver waited 20 minutes but she never returned.
