Wanted: West End youth worker
its west end community centres.
The Ministry's director, Brenton Roberts, yesterday explained that the post of community worker -- under the senior community worker -- was readvertised because there was an insufficient number of applicants.
The full-time position will include supervision and recreation for the centres which are located at Springfield and on Boaz Island. The community worker will also be assigned a number of other tasks.
PRICE SUCCESSOR SOUGHT DGS Price successor sought The National Drug Commission is looking for a new treatment coordinator.
The post, which was advertised in yesterday's Official Gazette, was held by Lynda Price until she was fired in May for failing to follow instructions of NDC chief executive officer Derrick Binns.
Dr. Price's dismissal followed a row within Bermuda Youth Counselling Services.
Health Minister Nelson Bascome demanded a full report on the controversial firing. But he later said he was satisfied that the procedures followed were all "above board''.
In yesterday's advertisement, the NDC noted in the very first paragraph, as if to avoid any future confusion, that the postholder will report directly to Dr.
Binns.
The deadline for applications is July 16.
ROBBERY TRIAL DATE SET CTS Robbery trial date set Two men will be tried in August on charges that they robbed a man and stole $2,700 worth of cash and goods from him in March.
Paco Teleph Fubler and Kenneth Trevor Boyles denied robbing Webster Mills Jr.
on March 10 when they appeared in Supreme Court on Thursday.
They are accused of taking $1,500 cash, a gold chain, and a cycle helmet, all with a total value of $2,070.
Fubler, 25, of Sunset View Road, Pembroke, and Boyles, 21, of Spice Hill Road, Warwick, also denied stealing a Suzuki motorcycle from Nikita Richardson on the same date.
When Fubler was originally charged in March, there was a third count of putting Mr. Mills in bodily fear, but that has been dropped by prosecutors.
At the suggestion of Senior Crown counsel Brian Calhoun, Chief Justice Austin Ward set the men's case down for mention on August 2, "with a view'' to proceeding with the trial on the following day. Arraignments are scheduled for August 2.
DJ GETS A BREAK CTS DJ gets a break Senior Magistrate Will Francis gave a local disc jockey a break after he admitted speeding at 63 kph.
Twenty-eight-year-old Scott Simons asked to be given a steeper fine rather than a ban from driving private cars as he explained he needed his car to carry out his disc jockey business.
"I have two jobs your honour and I need them both to be able to look after my family,'' Simons explained. "I need that car to transport my equipment around to weddings and parties.'' Simons, from Pearman's Hill in Warwick, initially faced a fine of $300 and a six-month driving ban. But Mr. Francis dropped the disqualification and raised the fine to $500.
However, Mr. Francis did not agree to the change without first sternly lecturing Simons.
"It's crazy out there,'' Mr. Francis said. "People are beginning to take the attitude that we shouldn't take speeding seriously unless it is over 65 kph.
"That's why the Police and I have to clamp down on speeders. The hospital is filling up with broken bones, bashed up heads and road rash. It has to stop.'' SANDYS HOME BURGLED CRM Sandys home burgled A Sandys Parish residence fell victim to burglars yesterday.
