WHAT THE SALVATION ARMY DOES:
The Dudley Butterfield Rehabilitation Centre:
Situated in King Street, Hamilton, this residential addiction treatment centre houses the 'Harbour Lights' programme.
The ten-bed facility was established 22 years ago in a building donated by Dudley Butterfield. It aims to rehabilitate male substance abusers back into society. Programmes last between three and six months.
Emergency Housing Complex:
This is a Government-owned facility operated by the Salvation Army as a night shelter providing accommodation for 40 men and 15 women.
Founded in 1982 in Marsh Lane, Pembroke, Government hopes to expand the centre once funds become available.
The complex also offers the Salvation Army's 'Dreaming in Colour' programme. This includes counselling and life skills such as assistance with resumes. It encourages independent living.
Community Life Skills Recovery Programme:
This 12-week course assists in helping those with addictions. It also incorporates the 'Dreaming in Colour' programme.
Created four years ago, it offers five residential places at a house in Pembroke to assist those who have succeeded in finding work to transition back to society. The tenants pay a nominal weekly rent. The recovery programme includes social support and relapse prevention.
