Respected BMDS past president dies in the UK

The president and members of the Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society are today mourning the sudden death in the United Kingdom of past president Barry Bailey. In making the announcement, current president Kelvin Hastings-Smith said Mr. Bailey had been a friend to many.

“To those who knew Barry, he was always cheerful and greeted everyone with a smile,” he said. “He loved the theatre, and BMDS in particular, where he was always comfortable and made everyone welcome.

As president, he enveloped himself in the running of Daylesford theatre with the greatest care and concern. He also took on most tasks in the theatre, including directing, producing, stage managing, set construction, house managing, and even appearing on stage himself.

“The theatre lights have sadly gone dim as a result of Barry’s passing, and our thoughts and condolences are with his wife Sue. BMDS has lost a great friend and a valued and enthusiastic president.”

During the couple’s time in Bermuda, Mr. Bailey was employed at law firm Conyers, Dill and Pearman.
