Man denies assault charges

A man accused of assaulting another man, threatening him with a firearm and throwing lighter fluid over him pleaded not guilty to a string of charges at Supreme Court yesterday.

Kamel Jamel Wendell Trott, 31, is accused of assaulting David Brooks occasioning actual bodily harm in Pembroke on March 15 this year.

On March 22, he is alleged to have assaulted the same victim again.

On April 26, he is accused of committing an aggravated burglary at a residence in Euclid Avenue, Pembroke, armed with a firearm, in order to inflict actual bodily harm on Mr. Brooks.

On the same date, he is said to have thrown lighter fluid at Mr. Brooks with intent to burn him, and also at another man, Scott Darrell.

Trott, of Kitty's Lane, Hamilton Parish, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

No further details about the allegations were given to the court by either Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Michael McColm, or Trott's lawyer Richard Horseman.

Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves remanded Trott into custody until his trial on January 5 next year.

In a further matter at the monthly arraignments session yesterday, Ricardo Lujuan Phipps, 35, of Cottage Hill, Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply on March 29 last year.

He had earlier pleaded not guilty to conspiring with others to import cannabis between February 26 last year and March 18 this year.

In light of his plea to the possession charge, Mr. McColm asked for the conspiracy charge to lie on file and not be proceeded with.

Mr. Justice Greaves ordered pre-sentence reports and told Phipps to return to court on November 3 for a sentencing date to be set.
