Contract talks between teachers and education officials resumed yesterday with both parties expected to bring revised proposals to the table.

Teachers have been without a contract since August 31.

Talks, which began in September, have been delayed due to education reform and the illnesses of various parties, including senior manager of the Education Department's human resources, Raymond Latter.

Yesterday Bermuda Union of Teachers organiser Sen. Milton Scott said the parties were scheduled to meet and he hoped to have most of the "peripheral'' matters cleared.

MAGISTRATE REFUSED CTS PLN Magistrate refused Magistrate Arthur Hodgson was yesterday denied permission to construct a home in Hamilton Parish because the building would have contravened the intent of the Bermuda Plan 1992.

The DAB said that the development failed to protect the environmental, visual and amenity value of the undeveloped land.

WOMAN DENIES THEFTS CTS Woman denies thefts A 42-year-old woman will go on trial next March on some 20 counts of stealing.

Kay M.E. Lewis pleaded not guilty to all the counts in which she is alleged to have stolen different sums of money totalling more than $7,000 from Rhonda Lolita Robinson between January, 1994, and August 7, 1995.

Senior Magistrate William Francis put the matter down for trial on March 26.

Lewis, of Friswell's Lane, Pembroke, was bailed for $2,000 with a like surety and was ordered to surrender all travel documents.

APPEAL FOR WITNESSES AC Appeal for witnesses Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident which has left a 16-year-old with serious head injuries to come forward.

The accident, which occurred on Mullet Bay Road in St. George's shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday, involved a head-on collision between a red Yamaha DT 100 motorcycle and a Peugeot Scooter ridden by the 16-year-old.

The teenager remains in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Police said a silver or white Hyundai, driven by a white female, was believed to have been travelling east on Mullet Bay Road at the time of the accident.

Investigating officer P.c. Ellen Miller is looking to speak with the woman and any other witnesses who may have information that could assist. They can call St. George's Police Station on 297-1122.

MAN ARRESTED CRM Man arrested Police have arrested a 21-year-old Pembroke man in connection with a robbery of a visiting US couple at Fort Hamilton.

The couple reported they were sightseeing at the Fort at noon on Wednesday when a man armed with a machete approached them and demanded money.

The 40-year-old male victim handed over his wallet at which time the offender removed an undisclosed amount of cash and threw the wallet to the ground.

He then escaped on foot in the direction of Happy Valley Road.

Police said as a result of inquiries, the Pembroke man was arrested.

AIR TICKETS STOLEN CRM Air tickets stolen A pair of visitors could be left stranded on the Island after having their airline tickets stolen.

A thief entered their apartment at the White Sands Hotel, Paget on Sunday night after they had left a sliding door open.

The thief made off with a handbag containing airline tickets, a wallet and credit cards as the couple lay asleep in their beds.

DRUGS TRIAL POSTPONED CTS Drugs trial postponed The case of two alleged drug importers charged with importing $60,000 worth of cannabis was put off yesterday because the Crown counsel was ill.

Trevor Morain, from Grenada, and Alvin Francois, of St. Lucia, were due to start their Supreme court trial yesterday. It is now scheduled to begin on Monday.

Both men have denied conspiring to import cannabis between May 31 and June 19, importing the drug between June 16-19 and possessing and handling cannabis with intent to supply on June 18.
