Nahki Wells heads into the Lions’ den for FA Cup fourth round

Nahki Wells

Nahki Wells and his Bristol City team-mates will be keen to get back to winning ways against Millwall in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup today.

City slumped to their first defeat of the year after losing 2-0 away to leaders Norwich City in the Sky Bet Championship on Wednesday to lose precious ground in the promotion race.

They will have their work cut out at the New Den against even-money favourites Millwall, who prevailed 2-0 in the previous meeting between the two sides in the Championship at Ashton Gate last month.

But the Lions have not won at home since October 20, a sequence spanning eight matches.

The winner of today’s cup-tie will travel to either Premier League side Sheffield United or League One outfit Plymouth Argyle in the fifth round.

City advanced to the fourth round of the world’s oldest competition after edging Portsmouth, the 2008 champions, 2-1 at Ashton Gate on January 10.

Millwall secured their passage via a 2-0 win away to non-League Boreham Wood 24 hours earlier.

Meanwhile, City’s away fixture against Brentford in the Championship next month has been pushed back 24 hours after being selected for live television coverage by Sky Sports.

The match will now take place on February 3 at Brentford’s new stadium in West London. The fixture has been postponed twice after Covid-19 outbreaks in both camps.

• Justin Donawa’s Solihull Moors and Jonté Smith’s Woking endured mixed fortunes in the fourth round of the FA Trophy on Tuesday.

Solihull bowed out of the competition after suffering a 3-2 defeat away to Aldershot Town, while Woking advanced via a 7-6 penalty shoot-out win away to Bromley after normal time finished 1-1.

Donawa was left out of the Solihull squad, while Smith was not registered early enough to be eligible.
